The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, highlighted today that Peruvian agro-exports would exceed US$9.6 billion at the end of 2022, the highest value in history, recording a growth of 10% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In that sense, he stated that this will be possible thanks to higher coffee prices, as well as the continuous increase in fruit production that has led us to become one of the world's leading fruit exporters. In 2022, fruit exports would exceed US$5 billion.

"In recent years, Peru has positioned itself as a leader in fruit exports in the region. We are the world's leading exporter of table grapes and blueberries, and the second of avocados. Our challenge is to enter this year the ranking of the 10 main world exporters of fruit. And this will be possible thanks to an articulated work between the government and the private sector, thinking of all our compatriots”, affirmed the head of the Mincetur.

As is known, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism over the years has been developing a trade policy based on opening markets and improving the competitiveness of exports. Capacity building for companies continued, hand in hand with regional actors. All this is added to the commitment of President Pedro Castillo with the foreign trade sector.

“The foreign trade sector has the potential to contribute significantly to an inclusive economic recovery in our country. To do this, we must work to expand the export base so that more companies, particularly MSMEs, organizations, associations and cooperatives can take advantage of the opportunities offered by international markets. Let us remember the work that we have been carrying out with the Export Productive Route-RPE that has been benefiting more than 6,500 families from Piura, Junín and San Martín. This figure will increase with the third call for this Mincetur initiative," said Minister Sánchez.

IMPORTANT PERFORMANCE IN THE FIRST SEMESTER

As recalled, the national foreign trade has been achieving an important performance so far in 2022. Thus, Peru's exports reached US$ 32,211 million in the first half of the year, an amount higher by +18.4% compared to same period of the previous year, that is, an additional US$ 5 billion.

The growth of exports, in the first half of 2022, is mainly due to the higher prices of energy goods, minerals and agricultural products.

The sectors that grew the most in the first half were oil/gas (+179%), chemicals (+40.1%), textiles (+37%), forestry (+31%) and agriculture (+20%). For their part, the goods that climbed the most were coffee (+328%), natural gas (+388%), blueberries (+118%) and ethyl alcohol (+106%). Likewise, in agriculture, together with coffee and blueberries, shipments to the world of Tahiti lemon (+81%), grapes (+17%) and cocoa/derivatives (+10%) increased.
