Peruvian exports have shown a remarkable evolution in recent years, and this trend is expected to continue in 2023. In 2021, exports totaled US$56.3 billion, and in 2022, this number increased to US$63 billion. By 2023, Peruvian exports are projected to reach an amount close to US$ 65,000 million, which represents an increase of 2% compared to the previous year.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews, has highlighted that growth has been moderate but constant, especially in the non-traditional sector, which is expected to grow around 7%. However, when analyzing these figures, it is important to note that exports of traditional products such as minerals and fishmeal are excluded.

Non-traditional exports have been the ones that have brought the best news for Peru, especially the agro-export sector. Although they are being exported to the same markets, Peru is looking to open up new markets, one of them being Hong Kong. The first round of negotiations in Hong Kong has already started and the second round of negotiations is now taking place in Lima.

It is expected that in three or four rounds of negotiations the agreement with Hong Kong can be closed. This territory is an important redistribution point for exports to the Asian market and is also a gateway to mainland China. In addition, it is not only interesting from the point of view of trade, but also from the flow of tourism and the attraction of investment. In fact, there are investments from Hong Kong in the world in infrastructure issues that are very important for Peru, considering the gap that exists in the country in this regard.

Finally, the start of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement has been agreed with Indonesia at the recent APEC Forum in Detroit. This is another important step for Peru on its way to expanding its export markets.

In summary, Peruvian exports are on a path of constant growth, driven by the non-traditional sector and the opening of new markets. With current projections, 2023 is expected to be another successful year for Peruvian exports.
