The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has announced that the project of the New San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal will be declared of interest in the third quarter of 2023. This declaration marks an important milestone in the development of port infrastructures in Peru and it has the potential to promote the development of various projects in its area of influence, especially in the mining sector.

The port of Marcona, located in the Ica region of Peru, is about to undergo a significant transformation. The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has announced that the project of the New San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal will be declared of interest in the third quarter of 2023. The new port terminal will specialize in providing loading and unloading services, especially loading of iron concentrates and other minerals and inputs for mining. It is expected to handle up to 18 million metric tons of cargo from the main mining projects in the area. In addition, it will serve liquid bulk cargo, general cargo, including containerized cargo.

One of the mining projects that will benefit from the construction of the new port is the Pampa de Pongo iron mine, which has contemplated an investment of around 2 billion dollars. The construction of the port of Marcona will promote the development of this and other mining projects in the area, helping to boost foreign trade in the south of the country and generating a favorable impact on the production of goods and services.
