The recent air services agreement between Peru and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) marks a significant milestone in the expansion of economic and trade relations between the two nations. This agreement, signed after 12 years of negotiations, positions Peru as the second most important trading partner of the UAE in Latin America.

This agreement will allow two of the ten best airlines in the world, Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, to extend their routes to Peru. This expansion of air services will facilitate tourism and strengthen economic and trade relations between Peru and the UAE.

Since the opening of the Commercial Office of Peru (OCEX) in Dubai in 2011, meetings have been held with the emirate airline and the corresponding authorities with the aim of achieving greater connectivity. This agreement is evidence of the commitment of both nations to further consolidate what has been achieved in economic and commercial matters.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews, said that air connectivity directly influences three fundamental aspects: the increase in Exports, Tourism and Investments. This agreement is a testimony of the vital work carried out by PROMPERÚ, through its commercial offices abroad.

Today, the UAE is among the 15 main destination markets for total Peruvian exports, having gone from US$6 million in 2011 to over US$700 million in 2022. Accumulated exports to date exceed US$4.7 billion .

This air services agreement between Peru and the UAE is an important step towards expanding trade and economic relations between both nations. With the possibility of increased air connectivity, trade and tourism opportunities between Peru and the UAE are expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
