PERUVIAN IMPORTS ADD 45,551 DOLLARS BETWEEN JANUARY AND SEPTEMBER 2022

Imports amounted to 45,551 million dollars between January and September of this year, an amount higher by 22.9% compared to the same period in 2021 (37,100 million), indicated the Center for Research on Global Economy and Business of the Cien-Adex Exporters Association. .

Asimismo, destacó que el monto de 45,551 millones de dólares, es el más alto de los últimos 20 años para el referido periodo de comparación (enero-setiembre), debido a los mayores precios de importación de combustibles, fertilizantes, insumos industriales y alimentos.

Metalworking led the ranking with 13,227 million dollars, reflecting an increase of 2.6%; followed by chemicals with 8,871 million dollars (24% increase); and hydrocarbons with 7,932 million dollars (79.4% more). 

Others were agriculture (5,553 million), iron and steel (3,131 million), various (2,878 million), textiles (1,339 million), non-metallic mining (942 million), clothing (702 million), wood (384 million), mining (357 million) and fishing (229 million).

The Cien-Adex report considered that, in general, imported products continue to be affected by the increase in prices of raw materials and fuel. Some of them are urea (103.5% more), diesel B5 (78.9% more), wheat (39.1% more) and hard yellow corn (23.1% more).

Most important products by sectors

In the hydrocarbon sector, the most important product by amount was diesel B5 (1,343 million dollars); in metalworking, cell phones (305 million dollars); in agriculture, wheat (268 million dollars); in iron and steel scrap iron (356 million dollars) and in chemicals, PET resin (185 million dollars).

The main supplier was China (12,153 million dollars) with 26.7% of the total imported. Cell phones were its main goods despite falling 17.2% as of September this year.

It was followed by the US (10,611 million), Brazil (3,281 million), Argentina (2,259 million), Mexico (1,595 million), Chile (1,176 million), Bolivia (1,000 million) and Colombia (921 million), among others.
