Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism affirms that it will generate commercial opportunities for Peruvian companies.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, announced today that the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) entered into force for Malaysia, opening a new market for Peruvian exports.

"This news is of great interest for the Peruvian exportable supply, because we did not have a prior trade agreement with that country," he said.

He explained that with the CPTPP, about 90% of products will be able to enter Malaysia without tariffs, immediately.

“The entry into force of the CPTPP for Malaysia will generate numerous business opportunities for Peruvian companies. In this way, we continue to strengthen Peru's presence in Asia Pacific”, said Sánchez.

Strengths

The minister highlighted that one of the main strengths of our country is its broad commercial integration with various markets, thanks to the trade agreements that the country has signed over the years. "The free trade policy has made it possible to create new jobs and contribute to sustainable economic growth."

According to Mincetur, in 2021 Peruvian exports to Malaysia reached 100 million dollars, while non-traditional exports totaled approximately 25 million dollars.

With the implementation of the CPTPP, these figures will increase, thus boosting the Peruvian economy, which, in turn, will encourage the creation of more jobs, he asserted.
